Pilot activities update

The pilot activities are going very well, and we started a number of new pilot activities, such as constructions of Iran's first wetland education center and the livestock wastewater tretment facility. Please visit out piliot activity page!

JICA Study Team submits the Interim Report

In July 2004, the JICA Study Team came back from Japan, and submitted the Interim Report which explained the draft master plan. The contents of the draft master plan were presented at the 8th Local Steering Committee Meeting and the 3rd National Steering Committee Meeting.

JICA Training in Japan

Five Iranian experts (Dr. Nezami, Mr. Karimi, Mr. Mohammadi, Mr. Pooyasefat and Mr. Rafati) are visiting Japan to participate in the JICA Counterpart Training Course specially designed for this study. They are studying how wetlands and watersheds are managed in Japan.

Seminars on February 19 and 22

JICA Study Team held seminars in Rasht and Tehran, and presented the progress of the study. The seminar also featured presentations by Mr. Miwa from Shiga Prefecture, Japan, who talked about the Japanese experiences of environmental management in Lake Biwa.

JICA Study Team submits Progress Report (2)

On February 14, JICA Study Team submitted the Progress Report (2) to the Iranian side. The report summarized the outcome of the first phase of the study including the proposed master plan. The contents of the report were discussed at the Local and National Steering Committee Meetings.

JICA Official visits Guilan

Ms. Yamazaki from JICA Headquarters in Tokyo, and Mr. Tanaka, Residence Representative of JICA in Iran visited the study area during Dec.16-18, 2003. On Dec. 24, she met with MOJA and DOE representatives in Tehran, and expressed her hope for further active involvement of the Iranian counterparts, and successful implementation of the master plan after it is formulated.

Fourth Workshop held on Nov. 30

On Nov. 30, 2003, the JICA Study Team held the 4th Workshop with the theme of gStudy on Wetland Degradationh. The Workshop focused on the mechanisms of environmental degradation due to water pollution and erosion and sedimentation. In total 58 persons attended the workshop.

JICA Study Team supports Bicycle Race around Anzali Wetland

On Oct. 23, 2003, the cities of Anzali, Rasht and Somesara, the Guilan Port and Shipping Organization and Guilan DOE organized a bicycle road race around the Anzali Wetland. To promote wetland conservation, the JICA Study Team presented T-shirts with an environmental message in Farsi gBaghaye Talab, Baghaye Mast (Wetland Conservation is Our Conservation)g to all participants.

Japanese Ambassador visits the Anzali Wetland

On Sept. 29, 2003, the Japanese Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran, His Excellency Mr. Takekazu Kawamura and Mrs. Fumiko Kawamura visited Anzali Wetland with Mr. Ghahremani, the Deputy Governor of Guilan Province. His Excellency was given a tour of the wetland using a boat provided by DOE. The ambassador discussed the problems of the wetland and declared himself to be most pleased with the progress of the study and cooperation between Iran and Japan.
